Swimming was held in the SRC Pool with all 16 halls participating in the only swim competition in this year's IHG.
The events were: 4x50 m male breaststroke, 4x50 m female breaststroke, 4x50 m male freestyle, 4x50 m female freestyle and 4x50 m team medley.
The day started off with the heats for all five events; as there were sixteen halls for each event but only eight lanes, each event had two heats.
Hall XI was disqualified due to technicalities for both breaststroke events. However, we managed to finish third overall for the team medley event, with Justin, Wei Chong, Gillian and Xin Yu competing in the backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly events in the team medley.
After a break for lunch, it was time for the team medley finals. With a minor adjustment in the team strategy, Hall XI's team was ready to go in the finals. And go they did. Gillian, Xin Yu, Wei Chong and Justin all put in their best to ensure that Hall XI finished in third again in the finals, to secure our only medal in this year's Swimming IHG. |
The Phoenix has always been a symbol of uniqueness and the strife for unprecedented achievements. Hall 11 and its residents encompass the very spirit of the Phoenix by putting in our heart and soul in every game or activity we participated in.
Hall 11 emphasizes on building a strong rapport among one another to create a “homecoming” feeling for all our residents. Through trainings, gatherings and a host of activities, Hall 11 also sought to strengthen the bonds among residents and subsequently achieving common goals for the good of our Hall. We are a one big family. Throughout these 14 years of establishment, we have carved out a reputation of having a strong cultural scene in the hall. Currently, we have four main groups of cultural performers – Xing and Strum, Jam Band, XIgnature (Hall 11 choir) and our dance group. They have all performed at several events and have amassed popularity among the public. Our drama production also boasts itself as one of the few unique halls to use Chinese as a language medium. With a strong foundation in the cultural scene, it is not surprising that we have produced a few celebrities of our own such as Lin Pei Fen (Yes 93.3 DJ) and Andy (Soul, Superband contestant). We also have a vibrant sports culture as seen from the high participation rate in our annual Inter-Block Games. The players worked very hard to achieve their very best in the subsequent Inter-Hall Games competition. Every year, the JCRC organizes events such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year celebrations, an exchange with our sister hall from NUS – Raffles Hall, block suppers, Apprecio, Hall Night and many others. We also have various special projects such as Sea Expedition, Annual Camp, Appreciation dinner, Cheerleading, Production, Dinner and Dance, Freshmen Orientation Camp as well as Welcome week. No doubt, Hall 11 is one of the few halls to have the most number of activities. Our vibrancy and vitality would not be completed without a team of supportive hall fellows and hall officers. They have generously provided us with plenty of support and often taking care of our Hall’s welfare in great detail. We are proud to be the residents of Hall 11 and we welcome you to join us in adding to our rich traditions, hence together “SOARING TO GREATER HEIGHTS” … | Hall Mascot : Phoenix |
