Hall 11 met Hall 9 in this postponed game at Ayer Rajah Sports Complex (AR-JAS). With play postponed from 8am due to the rain, the team started playing only at 9.30am in the field which had three diamonds drawn out.

The first inning produced no runs as both teams did not take their chances at bat and only the second inning produced one run, with Arun hitting for Terry to complete a two-base run to home.

The third was played and similarly tight with no team able to outclass their opponent clearly. Alas, 1h15min has yet to elapse and our team had to a fourth inning to make up the time.

In the end though, we held our opponent in maroon well and did enough to advance to the quarterfinals, like our girls' team yesterday. Well done softballers!

Softball (M) QF v Hall 15

Hall 11 played Hall 15 in the first match of the knockout stage.

In the first inning, the Devils' fielding was excellent as they held Hall 15 convincingly, letting no runs in through the entire inning. Wei Long caught the last ball to end the top of the first inning. Jerome broke his duck in the bottom of 1st as the team batted well, scoring 6 runs in to end the first inning 6-0.

In the second inning, Terry fielded well at first but alas made an error while batting. In terms of pitching, Ravi was on top form as usual. The second inning ended without any runs from either side.

The third inning was marked by an injury, and he was replaced at 1B by Arun. Max came on to take the 3B fielding position. The team fielded very well again, to end the top of 3rd quickly as every fielder played as one. The third inning ended 6-1, with Hall 11 only letting in 1 run. However, with insufficient time played, the game went to a fourth inning.

Terry and Desmond fielded well in the top of fourth to hold Hall 15, and we scored another three runs to end the match at 9 runs to 1.

Congratulations to Hall 11 female softball team for making into the quaterfinals after an exciting victory of 5-3 over Hall 3.

The first inning was marked by a perfect fielding performance by the girl as they limit Hall 3 to zero runs. The inning ended on a lower note with three bases were loaded and no runs.

The second inning started shaky as error allowed Hall 3 to gain a run. This was followed by wasting a chance complete a double play at second and third bases. The girls recovered well and reacted by completing the inning by preventing any more runs from the opponents. Credits to the pitcher who strike out two batters. The girls carried their good form into batting by completing four runs to take the lead to 4-1. Good hits by Hui Ling, Ren Ling, Elisa and Si En contributed to the runs.

The final inning started shaky again as mistakes allowed Hall 3 to gain two runs to bring the game to its peak at 4-3. The girls then composed themselves to play out the final batter to move into batting with a score of 4-3. They then completed the game 5-3 with Chu Yi making the only run for Hall 11.

Once again congratulations to Hall 11 female softball team and hereby wishing them the very best for their next game.

Hall 11 registered a comfortable win against Hall 15 advancing not only to the third match of the prelims but also keeping the hopes of entering the quarter finals alive. The highlights of the match require mentioning of the superb team unity and coordination in both the sets. The first set was specifically marked with the aces and non returnable serves of Qi Yong which made the tight score of 16-13 turn into 23-16 in no time helping Hall 11 to win the first set with a handsome lead (score 25-14).

The second set started on the same note with a tight 2-3 point difference score until 9-7 when Wai Long took off from where Qi Yong had stopped. His aces and serves had put hall 11 in a commanding position in no time. The scores clearly indicated to the opponents that they had no hopes of making a comeback and hall 11 ended up winning the second set with a score if 25-14.

Our team will be facing Hall 9 on Saturday and the winner will secure a place in the quarters. We wish them “All the best” for that match.

“GO HALL 11”.

Hall XI badminton team ensured that they are on the right track by winning against Hall VI in a tightly contested match.  They won 3 games out of 5 to progress to the quarter-final stages. As both teams need to win in order to progress further, a feisty competition was served to the spectators.

In the first game, our mixed doubles, Ng Wei Long and Sharon Chen paved the way to victory by winning 2 sets. The score was 21-15, 19-21, 21-14. The second game was female single where Hui Qian brushed her opponent easily, winning 21-4,21-10 in the process. In the third game, which was man single, hall VI mounted a fightback by winning 21-10,21-15. The fourth game was men doubles, Qi Yong and Wei Long won the first set at first. However, Hall VI took back the second set to push the game to the third last set. The score was tight all the way until last 2 points where both players, with their right judgement, ended Hall VI hopes of qualification with a thunderous smack. The final score was 21-14, 13-21, 21-19.

Congratulations to the badminton team for qualifying to the quarter finals and we wish them luck ahead of their clash against Hall XVI.

For their opening IHG match, our soccer boys were faced with the team from Hall Eight. Just a few minutes into the game, our boys scored the first goal of the match, putting us at an advantage. Hall Eight quickly followed with a goal as well and, eager to break the draw of 1-1, sent the ball into the goalpost again just before the first half ended.

That put us behind them by 1 goal but our soccer boys, showing an exemplary display of their fighting spirit pushed Hall Eight hard, scoring 3 goals in the second half. Our opponents tried to fight back but could only falter against our strong defence. As the referee blew the final whistle, it sealed their fate and the Hall XI soccer team wins the game with a credible score of 4-3!

Volleyball ( M) v Hall 3

It was Monday morning; right after Christmas week where the first volleyball game of 2010 was played between Hall 3 and 11. Both halls were indeed eager to draw first blood as they practiced fervently at the SRC court, not wasting any single minute.

First player setup from Hall 11 included Wai Ken, Qi Yong, Shawn, Wei Yen, Wei Long and volleyball captain, Terry.

Within the initial minutes into the game, the differences between the teams’ playing styles were evident. Hall 3 was firing most of the shots and controlling most of the court while Hall 11 was on defense. The first two points went to Hall 3 before a swap was requested where hall player Wei Yen was swapped with Adrian. There was minor confusion as to why the swap was made.

Shortly after the regroup, it could be seen that Hall 11 has bolstered its attack once again where hall player Qi Yong fielded most of the shots scoring a couple of points for Hall 11. However that did not change the overall gameplay as Hall 3 continued its barrage of quick and hard shots onto our side. Greater coordination was seen by Hall 11 where our players were able to handle the incoming strikes seamlessly, increasing their pace and speed; nonetheless the first round went to Hall 3 (25 - 13).

Shortly after, the 2nd half commenced where first blood again went to hall 3 with its usual heavy shots. Our players were seen mixing its attack with defence as it coped with Hall 3 aggressive tactics and movements. It was intense as cheers could be heard from both sides to cheer on their teams. In the midst Hall 3 swapped 2 players as well; while our Hall continued to play using its great teamwork gaining closely to our opponents. But alas, our players missed a couple of shots in the subsequent half of the match and Hall 3 was evidently more accurate in their counter-attacks. The 2nd half went to Hall 3 (25-16).

Hall 11 may not have won this time round, but the strong support seen for our team and not forgetting the strong bonds forged between our players was well worth the tough and arduous training that the volleyball guys have underwent. Well done and we are all proud of you!

The match started in Hall 3’s indoor courts, where our players were seen practicing diligently before Hall 12 arrived. Xin Lin and Li Hua set the ball, or rather the shuttlecock, rolling by winning the first game 21-10 quickly. With her aggressive shots, Xin Lin ensured that the second round would go to us as well, despite hearty attempts by their opponents to even out the score.

Up next was the male singles, where Wee Kuang steamrolled through the first game by winning 21-8. The next game however, would prove difficult as his opponent warmed up, with both trading powerful shots. It seemed as if the tide could be turning, but Wee Kuang ended off the game with a series of consecutive points, beating his opponent with a score of 21-17.

The third match was the male doubles which consisted of Qiyong and Terry. Regarded as one of the best badminton players in Hall 11, his skill was evident as the game wore on.  With a few minor mistakes made here and there, both of them worked well together and won the first two games with 21-11.

Wei Long and Sharon were up next in the mixed doubles. Despite their valiant efforts, our team lost the first game by a close margin of 21-19. In the next round, our opponents capitalized on Sharon’s inexperience by targeting her, and took the second game too. Nonetheless, it was a good match and well done to our badminton team!

Hall 11's Darts team faced Halls 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 14 and 15 in Group A of the IHRG Darts Preliminaries.

The team, led by Desmond, faced strong competition in their round-robin matches, losing narrowly to Hall 5 and Hall 15, even after putting up courageous fights against their more-experienced opponents.

The matches were also a test of the players' endurance as the players had to play seven matches each.

In the end, although the team did not emerge victorious in any of their matches, they can take heart in their brave performances and return stronger next year, when they should be able to improve on this year's results with more training.

Day 21 - Volleyball (F)

Volleyball (F) v Hall 16

Hall 11’s volleyball girls team kept alive their hopes of progressing past the preliminaries by registering a  comfortable 25-19, 25-21 victory over Hall 16. Having lost their 1st match to Hall 2, a victory was essential if they were to stay in the tournament. And they delivered the result they needed.

The 1st set was fairly straight forward as Hall 11 had the edge over Hall 16 in almost every department. A combination of solid service, better attacking and defensive play formed the basis of Hall 11’s plays, allowing them lead from start to finish to take the 1st set 25-19.

The 2nd set saw Hall 16 settling in much faster as they raced to a early 10-6 lead. Hall 11 committed a string of errors to concede a couple of points that allowed Hall 16 to seize the lead. Hall 16 looked more composed as compared to the 1st set as the link-up play improved tremendously. However, just when Hall 16 was looking to consolidate their position, Hall 11 dug deep and produced a sequence of solid serves from Meiyan and Huijing that were either unreturnable or aces. This allowed Hall 11 to seize the lead 18-15. They never looked back as they closed out the match 25-21 with minimal fuss.

Overall, the camaraderie displayed between team members was a joy to watch. Team members would congratulate one another for good plays and provide encouragement for one another through out the whole match. With this match in the bag, Hall 11 will go into their final preliminary match brimming with confidence as they look to proceed into the knockout rounds.
